Emergency Service
You can count on Cooper Roofing to take your call for “Emergency Service” seriously. We understand the urgency of the situation and get right into action. Any time water is pouring into a building or occupied space, time is of the essence. If you are in the middle of a water emergency, you are counting on the speed and skill of the team that springs into action.
Emergencies demand professional attention. Nothing less will do.
For Cooper Roofing, emergency service is never boring. Some of the calls we have handled include:
Blocked Drainage - is by far the most frequent emergency we encounter. When normal runoff routes are blocked, water can enter a building at an astounding rate, causing excessive damage. The best defense against water infiltration due to blocked drain paths is to insure that grates and downspouts are kept clear. It’s a very simple job yet one that’s neglected quite a bit.
Thermal Movement - is responsible for many emergency service calls. When roofs fail to accommodate expansion or contraction due to heat changes, damage to the roof can occur. Summer rainstorms can change the surface temperature of a roof 40 or more degrees in a matter of seconds! With that change comes rapid contraction (movement) of the roof, leading to spontaneous splitting of the roof surface. Freeze/thaw cycles are also thermal in nature and can create roof movement/ fracturing with disastrous results.
Wind Damage can occur throughout the year. Fastening waterproofing tarps over roof areas that have sustained wind damage in severe rainstorms is another common emergency. Hanging onto a tarp, which is like a ship’s sail in high winds, is extremely dangerous and difficult. We can tell you from experience it is not for amateurs! With the high wind, rain and lightening this is hazardous duty for which the Cooper team is trained.
Ice Damming is a common emergency during the winter months. We have responded to numerous situations where we were forced to remove gutters or drainage systems loaded with ice. At the very least, they needed emergency cleaning to stop high volumes of water from entering buildings. Removing slippery ice from roof gutters and drainage systems is difficult and dangerous. When water damage must be stopped professionals must step forward.
It's sad to say but Vandalized Roofs are another emergency situation to which Cooper has responded over the years. Repairing roofs that have been damaged through attempted robberies is not uncommon. Thieves cut through roofing to create their own access. This involves not only cutting the roof composition but cutting steel decking also (which is usually the decking on commercial buildings). The thieves don’t always understand that there is steel involved and give up, but not before causing serious damage to the roof. This damage doesn’t always show up until the next time it rains, (sometimes at night), when water pours in and it becomes a true emergency.
Obviously there are countless other causes which lead to the need for emergency service.
